CCVSAR: Chelan County Volunteer Search and Rescue Ground Unit Resources
At CCVSAR (Chelan County Volunteer Search and Rescue), our Ground Unit plays a vital role in saving lives through skilled search and rescue operations across diverse and challenging environments. From remote backcountry rescues to urban searches and fire evacuations, the Ground Unit is equipped and trained to respond effectively to those in need.
Our Mission
To provide expert search and rescue services on foot, ensuring the safety and well-being of those lost, injured, or in need of evacuation assistance, no matter where they are.
Our Resources
Backcountry Searches
The Ground Unit fields capable teams who are experienced in remote backcountry terrain and standard search techniques.
- Capabilities:
- Travel long distances through inhospitable terrain and adverse weather conditions.
- Conduct detailed searches in rugged environments.
- Leverage familiarity with regional trails and wilderness areas.
Backcountry Rescues
The Ground Unit is trained to locate and assist people in distress in remote settings.
- Capabilities:
- Provide basic first aid and communicate patient needs to EMS personnel.
- Coordinate and execute transport to medical care.
- Use wheeled litters to move subjects over rough terrain and trails.
- Draw on medical expertise from trained volunteers, including Physicians, Physician Assistants, Registered Nurses, Emergency Medical Technicians, and Wilderness First Responders.
- Benefit from team members who are avid hikers and trail runners, familiar with regional trails, and capable of comfortably traveling long distances or navigating steep elevation changes.
Urban Searches
In addition to wilderness operations, the Ground Unit is skilled in responding to urban and wildland-urban interface searches.
- Capabilities:
- Search for lost children or individuals with dementia or other conditions that make locating them more complex.
- Navigate urban, suburban, and mixed terrain environments typical of Chelan and Douglas counties.
- Provide rapid and organized search support for law enforcement and emergency services.
Fire Evacuations
In times of wildfire emergencies, the Ground Unit supports critical evacuation operations.
- Capabilities:
- Notify homeowners of changing fire evacuation levels.
- Assist in ensuring residents’ safety during fast-evolving fire conditions.
- Work closely with other emergency services to coordinate evacuations in threatened areas.
